    1. It's even more absurd than this. There is no US agency with authority over legal names, & like 5 that track names. It's easy to get into situations where they disagree. Any name you sign with is legally binding, so it all comes down to who's verifying & what agencies they trust. shardsofblue/1489961079350255628

    A 'legal name change' is just a court order. It doesn't change any central record anywhere - just provides verification that all the agencies are supposed to respect, and update their individual records, which then become additional documentation, and a snowball of legal proof.
