Over the years, 'specificity' has taken on two overlapping meanings: 1. Some selectors are more targeted than others. More specific. We use that 'specificity' as a heuristic in the cascade: more specificity -> higher 'cascade precedence'. 2. A synonym for 'cascade precedence'.

That makes sense. Specificity has always been our primary interaction with the cascade & shorthand is useful. The downside is we lose both the initial meaning (breadth of selector targeting) & forget about other steps in the cascade. Technical terms come with technicalities. 😅

tl;dr - Words are hard - I want to use the term 'Synecdoche' - That sounds even more pedantic than defining 'specificity' - Ok, I'll go do something else now
