              1. Thinking about that one job I did for RedBull back in 2008. It was my first big-name client – subcontracted through a friend. And it went kinda exactly the way you might expect a RedBull project to go…

It was a video-blog microsite they wanted in WordPress. They sent me 6 different designs – "by Shepard Fairey!!" – but hadn't decided which one to use yet. This was on a Thursday? And they wanted to launch by the next Friday. A week. "We'll let you know which design"…

I started building out the functionality, but I didn't hear back from them until the following Thursday. They had narrowed it down to 2 designs. "But you can still have it done tomorrow, right? We NEED it by Monday."

They were paying the best hourly rate I had seen at the time, so I offered to work all weekend and get it done. They offered to throw in a case of RedBull. No, thanks. They also offered me tickets/flights to SXSW to help launch the new site…

I worked through the weekend straight, & was really proud of what I built. On Monday the project manager at RedBull got in a fight with his boss, got FIRED, & the entire project was scrapped.

No SXSW. No launch. Nothing for my portfolio. But I got paid. Enough to buy my first scooter (I didn't have a car). RedBull. It gives you wheels. The end.

I think the project ("digital magazine") was called ChinaShop, or "Bull in a China Shop"? Anyway, that seems right.
