eriksen_dk tabatkins It's designed to handle an unknown or changing root. As far as I can tell, it does not apply to nested "roots" (eg shadow-root) – so I don't see any clear need in my usual work. I can imagine cross-media contexts where it might be useful? I don't know off-hand.
