Good advice, but negotiating relies on feeling (or faking) security to risk losing gigs. I took 5 years of speaking (and enough invites to turn some down) before I had confidence to ask for *anything at all* – let alone 5k. It's been shown repeatedly in job interviews that women/queers/poc do negotiate, and still get paid less in the end. I'm constantly thankful to the (generally invite-only) conferences that pay all speakers well & equally across the board, without the need to negotiate.On twitter.com
